My favourite way of getting into the Christmas spirit is heading to Birmingham’s Christmas market. Luckily for me it is only a walk away meaning that I can enjoy a mug of beer or a gluhwein without having to worry about getting home.
This year’s is bigger than last, going down to but not quite touching the bull ring centre. I am not convinced that the increase in stalls adds anything special to the market as a whole but, as long as local producers are earning money from all their hard work then I am all for it.
There are still plenty of my old favourites, the Ostrich burger stand, garlic bread and a stall selling something that I can’t remember the name of off the top of my head but they are marshmallows on top of a wafer covered in chocolate… anyway, they are delicious.
The whole look of the market, especially when the sun goes down and the lights go on feels magical. You can’t help feeling Christmassy (I am not even sure that it is a proper word but it feels right).
When I went everyone was friendly, happy and getting into a festive mood.
If any of my readers are local then I would highly recommend going to see it. It is running until Friday 23rd December and opens daily from 10am to 9pm.
